new mix

tell me what?!

It's a new one from Diddy, a man behind half of my wardrobe including the wedding suit. Yep, that $500m shiny suit. And there's X-Tina. And the remixes from Switch (of course) and Phones (nice). It seems that there's a DFA remix as well... World gone wrong, I tell you.

...then the boys

Mr Bryan Ferry makes us equally happy and surprised - his new record (forget the title, please) is an album of Bob Dylan covers - but instead turning them into heartbreaking late night ballads, he speeds up the tempo and comes with something closer to 70s Roxy Music stuff. Weird, cheesy, but it works for me. Also, check the new albums from Field Music, Greg Ashley and The Sea and Cake.

new stuff - ladies first...

Ok, been silent for a couple of days - that's because I got buried beneath a monstrous pile of new and old records while trying to listen to everything at once. Anyway, ladies first: Eleni Mandell comes from LA and will be releasing "The Miracle Of Five", an album full of... well, beautiful songs. Same can be said about Lavender Diamond (LA), Laura Veirs (Portland) and The Innocence Mission (Lancaster)... So stop screaming you grlzz, comb your hair a bit and grab your long skirts and acoustic guitars...

new blog

I decided to start another blog, dedicated to edits, mashups and other DJ activity. Check this heavy drinking, pot smoking, yeyo snorting and generally annoying alter ego of mine, Mac HD.

and another

Once you pop you can't stop... Here's another mash. This time no editing, just two tracks put together - an acapella of Birdman & Lil Wayne's "Stuntin' Like My Daddy" and Misc's remix of Trashtalk's "Tank Girl". Big up strasznachoroba, continuous Lil Wayne supporter.

a quick one

Feeling pleasantly high after a great party on Saturday (World Cat Day, by the way) with strasznachoroba aka Slot X I decided to put together two huge, probably overplayed, bad ass hits for all the party people. It's Wink's "Higher States..." layed on top of my edit of Simian Mobile Disco's "Hustler". Played it loud and sounds fine.

Ok, and here's another quickly assembled edit/mash. Raymond Wong's opening theme from "Shaolin Soccer" beefed with some beats from Puzique (actually, two tracks). I know it's silly but I can't help it.

éljen!

Hungarian cinema is alive and well. After massively over-hyped and utterly disappointing "Kontroll" now we have "Taxidermia", hysterically funny (and sometimes gross) story of three generations of seriously twisted fellows. Highly recommended.

He won't sleep

New album from El Producto, "I'll Sleep When You're Dead", is coming out in March. Features Rob Sonic, Aesop Rock, Mr Lif, Tunde Adebimpe (TV On the Radio), The Mars Volta (?!) and others... Here's a peek into this monster of a record. Additionally, two tracks from El-P's "High Water(Mark)", his 2004 album for Thirsty Ear. Man I love this.

A Dusty Tail

Ry Cooder has a new album out, which is a fully succesfull attempt to recreate some of the "dust bowl songs", histories of one cat's (literally!) journey "in the days of labor, big bosses, farm failures, strikes, company cops, sundown towns, hobos and trains". On the technical side, this album was mastered using iTunes Sound Enhancer option. Read the full story: A Red Cat’s Journey.pdf

Tea time

Today we're talking pot, reefer, weed, grass, ganja, funny stuff, hay, tea, charge, cheeba-cheeba, hooch, Mary Jane. Been listening to "Reefer Madness - Vintage Drug Songs, 1927-1945" recently - besides some well-known hits like "Minnie the Moocher" or "Ol' Man River (Smoke A Little Tea)" it holds some rare sweet vapors carefully preserved for years... It's tea time, peepz.

Nostalgia

Sometimes I get really nostalgic. I mean, come on, rap is cool and techno's fine, but imagine a world without something like this... It makes me cry. Photo by Stanley Kubrick for Look Magazine, 1949.

Just dug this 12" - will try to rip instrumentals, but my copy is really scratched... From '98, that's almost 10 years... "SuperThug" is an early Neptunes production. And "Banned From TV" features The Lox, Big Pun, Cam'Ron and Nature. Phat.

testing

My pal strasznachoroba reminded me of Paul Kienitz tests - be sure to check which science fiction writer or classical composer you are. I'm Hal Clement and Richard Wagner. Happily married to Stanislaw Lem and Sergei Prokofiev. Sounds like fun - we make a lovely four.

It's not easy being Number Two...

...but It's so much fun watching "Afro Samurai", new animated miniseries "starring" Samuel L. Jackson and Ron Perlman. Be sure to grab the soundtrack as well. The RZA delivers.

A Big One

New album from Panda Bear, "Person Pitch" (Fat Cat), is as good as an acid-drenched "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" recorded sometime between 1920 and 2009. Of course, it may be just a pile of rubbish for some... but we don't care, do we? This track comes also in form of a 12" single, and my oh my it's worth some of the extended play. Go and buy this record, folks. I'll have two copies.
